Electrical disturbances can originate from many sources. BEC cannot guarantee that you will not be affected by such occurrences and in most cases does not offer any compensation for damages caused beyond our control. We do however encourage customers to consider precautions, such as unplugging, turning off or limiting use of electronically sensitive and/or non-essential appliances during storms, extended outages and hurricane restoration exercises.
About Sensitive Appliances & Equipment
Sensitive equipment could be damaged or fail prematurely if they are not protected from abnormal voltage conditions and related system disturbances. Lightning strikes can not only cause major power disturbances, but they can damage expensive appliances and equipment through power, telephone and cable TV wires.
While BEC strives to provide highly reliable and consistent electric power, it does not and cannot guarantee continuous uninterrupted supply 100% of the time. In the course of normal operations, voltage will inevitably vary as loads enter or leave the power system or the power is switched between various sources of electricity supply.
What You Can Do To Protect Valuable Equipment
You can provide protection at your electrical panel or meter by installing surge suppressors which may protect against transients which may come through utility power lines. Or you can install protection where sensitive pieces of equipment connect to electrical outlets. A combination of these two methods should provide a greater level of protection. Additionally, you should ensure that your electrical system includes a complete and proper grounding system. Remember to contact a licensed electrical contractor for advice on installing all types of electrical equipment in your home.
